Website glitches mar start of Amazon’s Prime Day
Shoppers looking to cash in on Amazon’s Prime Day were met with website glitches that prevented them from completing their purchases on Monday, CNBC reported.
Many shoppers had issues on the site at the start of Prime Day, which provides additional discounts and deals for Amazon Prime members. This year’s Prime Day began on Monday at 3 p.m., and will continue through the end of the day Tuesday.
The company acknowledged some of the problems, citing more customers in the U.S. during the first hour of Prime Day compared to past years.

“Some customers are having difficulty shopping, and we’re working to resolve this issue quickly,” the company wrote.

CNBC reported that Amazon shares fell in response to the glitch, but rebounded by the end of the day Monday. The company expected this year’s Prime Day sales to exceed last year’s, when it said more than 10 million customers shopped on the website.
The company has drawn the ire of President Trump, who has a long-running feud with owner Jeff Bezos. He has taken issue with Bezos over Amazon and his ownership of The Washington Post.
The president on Twitter has accused the company of putting retailers out of business, and reportedly urged U.S. postmaster general to double shipping rates for products purchased on Amazon.com.
