Tomi Lahren: ‘Huge mistake’ to push to overturn Roe v. Wade

Conservative commentator Tomi Lahren said Saturday that she believes that pushing for the Supreme Court to overturn the decision in Roe v. Wade “would be a huge mistake.”

Lahren said in a “Final Thoughts” video for Fox News that while the open Supreme Court seat is a “huge opportunity for conservative values and principles,” the decision, which legalized abortion in the U.S., is popular enough that any attempt to overturn it would come with substantial legal hurdles.

“Do we really want to fight for this, alienate Democrats, moderates and libertarians, all to lose in the end anyway? That’s a risk I don’t think is worth taking,” Lahren said.

“I’m saying this as someone who would personally choose life, but also feels it’s not the government’s place to dictate. This isn’t a black and white issue and I would never judge anyone in that position,” she added.

Some conservatives have pointed to the Supreme Court vacancy created by the retirement of Justice Anthony Kennedy as a chance to overturn the landmark decision in Roe v. Wade.

President Trump has said that he likely won’t ask potential nominees about their stance on the landmark case. He is set to name his pick for the spot on Monday night.

Lahren was suspended from the conservative media company The Blaze last year after she came out in support of abortion rights. She ultimately left the outlet and was later hired by Fox News as a contributor.

She will also reportedly make a cameo in an upcoming movie about Roe v. Wade, playing a Planned Parenthood volunteer and daughter of Supreme Court Justice Harry Blackmun, who authored the opinion in the case.
