The Hill’s Jonathan Turley: Dems from swing states face even more pressure to support SCOTUS nomination

Hill opinion contributor Jonathan Turley says Democrats are facing increasing pressure when it comes to supporting President Trump’s yet-to-be announced Supreme Court nominee, especially those Democratic senators from swing states.

“The problem for the Democrats is you’ve got purple state Democrats going up – people like [Sen.] Joe Manchin in West Virginia, [Sen.] Claire McCaskill in Missouri,” Turley said. “They may be hard pressed to vote against a conservative who doesn’t have any outrageous statements in their past.”

Turley testified in support of Neil Gorsuch’s Supreme Court nomination in 2017, even though he says he didn’t agree with all of Gorsuch’s views as an appellate court judge.

“I thought [Gorsuch] was the gold standard … I hate to be uncharitable, but he’s one of a minority of members on the Supreme Court that deserve to be there,” Turley told Hill.TV.
