Obama Camp to Ohioans: Paint Our Logo on Your Barn

Rural Ohio’s scenery may be getting a political paint job, thanks to Barack Obama’s presidential campaign.

Obama for America is encouraging rural Ohioans to paint their barns with Obama’s campaign logo, the campaign announced today as it launched a new a program dubbed “Barns for Obama.”

Barn-owning Ohioans can sign up through Obama’s website, where they can request assistance from volunteers or choose to paint by themselves.

“In a state like Ohio that has a significant number of rural counties, our campaign is committed to reaching out to supporters in creative ways like this,” Tom Reynolds, an Ohio spokesman for Obama, told The Hill.

“It underscores our commitment to competing in every town in every corner in this state,” Reynolds said. “We’re not ceding anything to Republicans.”

President Bush won the state with 51 percent of the vote in 2004, while recent polls are split over Obama’s performance there: Quinnipiac has Obama leading by two percentage points, while Rasmussen has John McCain leading by ten.

Reynolds says the campaign is not recruiting barn owners for the program, but that barn owners are approaching them. The campaign has a growing list of interested barn owners, and so far the campaign logo is the only painting option available, Reynolds said.
