Chelsea Clinton knocks Sessions over remark on child separations

Former first daughter Chelsea Clinton slammed Attorney General Jeff Sessions for quipping about child separations while speaking to a conservative criminal justice organization on Tuesday.

Clinton sent a tweet responding to Sessions’s remark to the group in Los Angeles, calling his comments evidence of “indecency and incivility” in the national arena.

Her tweet came after Sessions called out the “hypocrisy” of the left on border security, saying that Democrats who live in gated communities would be “too happy to have you arrested and separated from your children” if “you try to scale the fence.”

“You want to know what indecency and incivility sound like? People laughing and applauding at the ‘joke’ about forcibly separating parents from their children,” Clinton fired back on Twitter.

The attorney general was responding to criticism of his zero-tolerance immigration policy, which led to thousands of migrant children being forcibly separated from their parents at the border while the adults faced prosecution.

President Trump signed an executive order last week to halt the separations following major outcry.

Discussion over “civility” in the national conversation arose this week after White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was kicked out of a Virginia restaurant, the Red Hen, after employees opted not serve her over the weekend.

The move was celebrated by some on the left including Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.), a top critic of Trump, but was condemned by other Democrats including House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (Calif.).
