A fourth-grader in New Jersey reportedly brought a loaded gun onto his school bus Tuesday morning and threatened to shoot another student.

The Lakewood Scoop first reported that the 9-year-old waved the gun on the bus on the way to Oak Street Elementary School in Lakewood.

Another student reported the incident and the student was apprehended by the school district’s security team.

Detective Lt. Greg Staffordsmith with the Lakewood Police Department told the news outlet that a loaded .22-caliber handgun was found in the student’s backpack.

Detectives have opened an active investigation.

School district Superintendent Laura Winters’s office wrote in an email to the Ashbury Park Press that the school was not placed on lockdown.

“All students and staff are safe and the school is operating on a normal schedule,” the statement said.
