A student at Santa Fe High School outside of Houston gave an emotional account of escaping the school during a deadly shooting Friday morning.

The unnamed student told ABC News that she was in first period when the shooter started firing, and said that teachers were trying to direct students to safety.

“I shouldn’t be going through this, it’s my school, this is my daily life,” she said, crying. “I shouldn’t have to feel like that, and I feel scared to even go back.”

{mosads}She said that alarms went off inside the school and students began running outside. At the sound of gunshots, she said she “ran as fast as [she] could to the nearest forest” to hide and phone her mom.

At least eight fatalities have been reported in the shooting, and the district said that the situation has been “contained.”

President Trump responded to the situation — first in a tweet, saying “God bless all” — and then in his remarks during a prison reform summit.

“This has been going on too long in our country, too many years, too many decades now,” he said at the White House. “My administration is determined to do everything in our power to protect our students, secure our schools and to keep weapons out of the hands of those who pose a threat to themselves and to others.”
