Trump to swear in Pompeo at State Department

President Trump will make his first visit to the State Department on Wednesday to swear in his new top diplomat, Mike Pompeo.

The new secretary of State made the announcement on Tuesday during his first address to the diplomatic corps.

“I talked about getting back our swagger,” Pompeo said. “The United States diplomatic corps needs to be in every corner, every stretch of the world executing missions on behalf of this country, and it is my humble, noble undertaking to help you achieve that.”

Trump’s visit to the State Department could give a morale boost to Foggy Bottom, which grew weary of Pompeo’s predecessor, Rex Tillerson.

The State Department had become an afterthought in the administration under Tillerson, who clashed frequently with Trump.

Pompeo, the former CIA director, has forged a much closer bond with the president.

Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito swore in Pompeo last week in a private setting before he left for his first foreign trip as secretary of State. Trump will preside over a formal ceremony.
