Sarah Sanders: Dems have to decide if they love the US more than they hate Trump

White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said early Monday that Democrats must decide if they love the United States more than they hate President Trump as they mull CIA Director Mike Pompeo’s nomination to lead the State Department.

“Look, at some point, Democrats have to decide whether they love this country more than they hate this president,” Sanders told “Fox & Friends.”

{mosads}“And they have to decide that they want to put the safety and the security and the diplomacy of our country ahead of their own political games. And we’re very hopeful that they will.”

Sanders’s comments come as the Senate Foreign Relations Committee prepares to take up Pompeo’s nomination in a Monday vote.

Some Democrats have announced opposition to Pompeo’s nomination to serve as the new secretary of State, though red-state Democrats up for reelection this year face a tougher choice.

Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.), who is up for reelection in a state Trump won by more than 35 points, said last week she will vote for Pompeo.

Trump tapped Pompeo for the new role when he ousted former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.
