Trump plans to golf with Japanese PM during visit to Mar-a-Lago

President Trump on Tuesday told reporters he and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe are planning to play a round of golf together during the prime minister’s visit to Mar-a-Lago.

“We’re going to sneak out tomorrow morning and play a round of golf if possible, if we have the time,” Trump said shortly after Abe arrived at the West Palm Beach, Fla., resort.

Trump is hosting Abe in Palm Beach, Fla., on Tuesday and Wednesday. The two are expected to discuss trade and relations with North Korea ahead of Trump’s planned future meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.{mosads}

The two leaders golfed together during Trump’s visit to Japan last year, where they were joined by Japanese pro golfer Hideki Matsuyama.

Trump and Abe also golfed during the Japanese leader’s trip to Florida in February 2017. Trump tweeted photos from the course, though reporters from both countries were not allowed to tag along.

Trump has spent many weekends since taking office at his private golf clubs, though the White House does not always publicly acknowledge whether the president is playing golf while there.

Trump was a vocal critic of former President Obama’s penchant for golfing while in office.
