Stormy Daniels attorney: Trump forced lawyers to ‘sit down’ after making a ‘disaster of their case’

The attorney representing porn star Stormy Daniels on Thursday suggested President Trump forced lawyers Michael Cohen and David Schwartz “to sit down” after making a “disaster of their case.”

“Where have the two legal geniuses of our time, Michael Cohen and David Schwartz, gone?” Michael Avenatti asked in a tweet.

“Forced to sit down by Mr. Trump after repeatedly making a disaster of their case on national television and being mocked by every real lawyer in America?”

Daniels, whose legal name is Stephanie Clifford, claims she had an affair with Trump ten years ago and was offered a $130,000 payment by Cohen for her silence just one month before the 2016 presidential election. Daniels and her lawyer say the agreement is invalid because Trump never signed it.

Cohen is being represented by his personal lawyer, David Schwartz, who returned fire at Avenatti last week in a radio interview, calling the attorney a “PR machine” and the case “a complete bunch of nonsense.” The payment, which some experts say could have violated federal campaign law, was “completely legal,” Schwartz added.

Avenatti, who has relentlessly pushed his client’s case against Trump on national television, is now requesting documents and records from the Treasury Department pertaining to the “suspicious activity report” filed on the 2016 payment.

Cohen and the White House have said that Trump denies the affair, and that Trump was unaware of the payment, which Cohen said he made from his own pocket.
