Gloria Allred withdraws from Summer Zervos case against Trump

Prominent feminist attorney Gloria Allred has ended her representation of a former contestant on “The Apprentice” who claims she was kissed and groped by President Trump without her consent.

Summer Zervos recently won a court victory when a judge ruled she could proceed with a defamation case against the president.

Lawyers for Trump had argued that his position as president granted him immunity from defamation lawsuits, an argument a judge rejected last week.

“In Clinton v. Jones the United States Supreme Court held that a sitting president is not immune from being sued in federal court for unofficial acts,” Justice Jennifer Schecter wrote in a ruling last week.

{mosads}Allred released a statement to The Associated Press on Thursday stating that her departure from Zervos’s defamation case had “nothing to do with the merits of her case against President Trump.”

The AP reports that most of the work in the suit is being done by a different attorney, Mariann Wang, who still represents Zervos.

Zervos, a California restaurant owner who was fired on week one of season 5 of “The Apprentice,” says Trump’s denial of the incident has hurt her credibility and reputation.

Zervos held a press conference with Allred last year in which she described how she says Trump groped and kissed her during a meeting about a job opportunity. Trump and his lawyers have consistently denied the claims, arguing they are politically motivated.
