Stormy Daniels attorney asks for permission to question Trump, Cohen

Stormy Daniels’s lawyer is asking a federal judge in California for permission to question President Trump on the nondisclosure agreement the adult film actress said she signed about an alleged relationship with Trump 10 years ago. 

Michael Avenatti said he is looking to question Trump and his lawyer, Michael Cohen, for a maximum of two hours in an effort to find out whether the president knew about the agreement and if he agreed to it. 

“The motion is not crazy. I mean, we’re relying on U.S. Supreme Court precedent and a whole line of cases in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. It is well founded. It is thought out. It is incredibly documented,” Avenatti told “CBS This Morning” on Wednesday.

“We’re going to test the veracity or the truthfulness of Mr. Cohen’s — his attorney’s — statements,” he continued.

“And we’re confident that when we get to the bottom of this, we’re going to prove to the American people that they have been told a bucket of lies.”

Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, filed a lawsuit earlier this month to void the agreement.

She and Avenatti argue that the agreement is invalid because the president did not sign the document. 

Daniels offered to return a $130,000 payment from Cohen in order to speak publicly about the alleged affair, but Avenatti said Trump and Cohen did not meet a deadline to have the money returned.

Daniels during a “60 Minutes” interview on Sunday detailed the alleged affair and said she was threatened after she agreed to discuss her relationship with Trump with a publication in 2011.
