Trump’s August New York trip cost NYPD nearly $4.6M: report

President Trump’s four-day trip to New York City in August, his first to the city since taking office, cost the New York Police Department nearly $4.6 million, CBS News reported Wednesday.

The reported costs include everything from the department’s preparations one day before Trump’s arrival to the security provided through his final day in the city.

NYPD deployed between 128 and 1,917 detectives, captains, lieutenants, officers, sergeants and traffic enforcement officers for each day of Trump’s visit, according to documents obtained by CBS.

Costs per day ranged between $76,436 and roughly $1.88 million, including fringe benefits and overtime costs for NYPD staffers. Spending reached its peak on the day of Trump’s arrival.

Congress has authorized additional funding for local security costs created by Trump’s travels, but it’s unclear if the New York police force has been reimbursed.

The president made the visit during the fallout from the deadly white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Va.

Trump doubled down on statements about the rally at an appearance at Trump Tower during the trip, telling reporters that there was “blame on both sides” for the violence.

The president was met with protests during his trip to the city.
