Zuckerberg to discuss Cambridge Analytica scandal in CNN interview

Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg will appear on CNN on Wednesday night to address the recent controversy concerning his company’s involvement with the data firm Cambridge Analytica.

Zuckerberg put out a statement on Wednesday saying that Facebook will take new steps to prevent more actors from abusing the social network’s data the way Cambridge Analytica reportedly did.

The social media company plans to tighten restriction in developer’s access to data, improve its transparency concerning data collection and investigate apps with similar access to user data.

“We have a responsibility to protect your data, and if we can’t then we don’t deserve to serve you. I’ve been working to understand exactly what happened and how to make sure this doesn’t happen again,” Zuckerberg said.

Zuckerberg had not made any statements since the company publicly suspended Cambridge Analytica on Friday for improperly obtaining the private information of 50 million Facebook users.

The firm, which had ties to president Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign, has said it no longer has the Facebook profiles it once accumulated.

Many lawmakers have pointed to the Cambridge Analytica privacy breach as just the most recent example of Facebook not prioritizing the privacy and security of its users.

A growing group of lawmakers from both parties is calling for Zuckerberg to testify before Congress about the Cambridge Analytica controversy.

Facebook will meet with officials on Capitol Hill this week to discuss the Cambridge Analytica revelations.
