Kasich starts NCAA bracket challenge to fight against human trafficking

Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) on Wednesday launched an effort to raise money to combat human trafficking through an NCAA Tournament bracket challenge.

The governor posted a video on social media and his website showing Kasich eating pizza and mulling over various picks in the bracket. 

Kasich picked a Final Four comprised of Virginia, Villanova, Gonzaga and Michigan State. He chose Virginia to beat Villanova in the national championship game.

The video urges individuals to donate $5 and join Kasich’s bracket pool, with the money going toward Polaris, an organization that fights human trafficking. Users have until noon on Thursday to enter.

The men’s basketball tournament officially begins on Thursday, though play-in games took place Tuesday and Wednesday night.

Kasich, who ran for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination, is reportedly gearing up for another possible White House bid in 2020. His term as governor ends in January 2019.

Kasich said earlier this month that “all options” are on the table for his future, and suggested the country might be headed toward a multiparty system.

“I’m starting to wonder if we are going to see a multiparty system at some point in the future in this country because I don’t think either party is answering people’s deepest concerns and needs,” he said.
