Olson Scores One of Few GOP Pickups Tonight

In one of the few bright spots for Republicans this Election Day, Pete Olson has upset first-term Rep. Nick Lampson (D) in Texas’s 22nd congressional district.

With all but 12 precincts reporting, Olson secured 53 percent of the vote to Lampson’s 45 percent. The win marks the third gain for House Republicans during a night that saw difficult loses throughout the United States.

Lampson reclaims the 22nd district for Republicans after Lampson’s win in 2006, coming in the wake of House Majority Whip Tom Delay’s (R) indictment.
