Trump won’t take part in Super Bowl interview

President Trump will reportedly not sit down for a Super Bowl interview this weekend.

“He is not doing a Super Bowl interview,” a White House official told CNN on Wednesday.

Sources at NBC, which will televise the game, also told CNN that Trump had not accepted their requests for an interview. Those sources added that the network would still welcome an interview with Trump if he decides differently.

It has become tradition for presidents to be interviewed ahead of the Super Bowl.

Bill O’Reilly interviewed Trump at the White House ahead of the game last year, when Fox televised the event.

The tradition began with former President George W. Bush, according to CNN. Former President Obama also took part in pre-Super Bowl interviews every year of his presidency.

Trump frequently rails on the media and accuses reporters and networks of publishing “fake news.”

Earlier this year, the Republican National Committee (RNC) announced the winners of Trump’s “Fake News Awards,” targeting networks and publications including CNN, ABC and The New York Times.
