Flynn met with FBI investigators without Trump’s knowledge: report

President Trump’s former national security adviser, Michael Flynn, met with FBI investigators early last year without the president’s knowledge, according to a report from NBC News.

Flynn reportedly met with FBI investigators interested in his past correspondence with former Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak. That meeting was held last January behind closed doors in Flynn’s White House office without a lawyer, NBC reported.  

White House counsel Don McGahn learned of the meeting from former acting Attorney General Sally Yates, according to the network. 

Yates reportedly told McGahn that Flynn had lied to Vice President Pence and other administration officials about his communications with Kislyak and other Kremlin officials. 

McGahn then briefed Trump, then-chief strategist Stephen Bannon and then-chief of staff Reince Priebus on his meeting with Yates, according to the report. 

Trump fired Flynn on Feb. 13. He reportedly asked then-FBI Director James Comey to let the probe into Flynn go the following day. 

Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI as part of special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into Russian election meddling, including possible ties between the Trump campaign and Moscow late last year. 

While Trump has pushed back on claims he asked Comey to let the Flynn probe go, he did say in an NBC News interview last May that he had Russia on his mind when he fired Comey. 

Mueller is reportedly interested in interviewing Trump and is set to interview Bannon at the end of this month.  

Yates has also cooperated with Mueller’s team, according to NBC.
