Clinton Thanks Obama, New Yorkers for Appointment
Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) expressed gratitude toward President-elect Barack Obama and her New York constituents in a Monday press conference in which she was nominated to become Secretary of State.
“Thank you for this honor,” Clinton said. “If confirmed I will give this assignment, this administration, and my country my all.”
She said it would be difficult to leave the Senate, where she has served since 2000, but that thinking of the troops and foreign and civil service officers serving abroad helped bring her on board for the position.
“The fate of our nation and the future of our children will be forged in the crucible of these global challenges,” Clinton said. “Our security and interests cannot be advanced by force alone, nor, indeed, by America alone.”
