Meghan McCain knocks Bannon: ‘Who the hell are you’ to criticize Romney?

Meghan McCain took aim at former White House chief strategist Stephen Bannon on “The View” on Wednesday after he attacked Mitt Romney and his family for not serving in the military.

Defending GOP Alabama Senate nominee Roy Moore, who has been accused of sexual misconduct by multiple women, from Romney’s criticism, Bannon had said the day before that the former presidential nominee “hid behind” his Mormon religion to avoid service in Vietnam.

McCain that Bannon should “take a seat” and ripped the former Trump aide for using military service as a political cudgel after what President Trump said about McCain’s father, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.).

“I thought we don’t like people who are captured?” she asked. “I mean, I’m sorry. Who the hell are you to be sitting here and talking about service [with] what your administration said about my father? Take a seat!”

“Several,” she added to applause.

At a July 2015 campaign appearance, Trump told the Family Leadership Summit that he likes “people who weren’t captured,” referring to McCain’s time as a prisoner of war in Vietnam.

Trump received five deferments from military service during the Vietnam War.

“It is very hypocritical, after what President Trump has said about my father,” the younger McCain said. “Never apologized, by the way. Still haven’t gotten an apology.”

McCain said she believes Bannon attacked Romney’s service because he is “threatened” by Romney’s floated candidacy to replace Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) upon Hatch’s possible retirement.

“Steve Bannon did serve, he was in the Navy for a long period of time,” she added. “What’s fascinating about this is, Steve Bannon is so threatened by Mitt Romney right now. There’s a lot of rumors Mitt Romney is going to end up running for Senate in Utah if Orrin Hatch steps down.”

“What’s fascinating about it is, if Mitt Romney gets in, and he’s indescribably popular in Utah, it will be a non-Bannon candidate that’s a shoe-in for the Senate,” McCain explained. “And Steve Bannon don’t like that.”

On Monday, Romney said if Moore were to serve in the Senate, it would be “a stain on the GOP and on the nation.”

“He’s still bitter about Donald Trump. Embrace it Mitt, he is president of the United States, and commander of armed forces, something you so miserably failed at,” Bannon said Tuesday.
