Protester who interrupted Moore: ‘Someone needed to stand up for the girls’

A protester interrupted Roy Moore as the Alabama GOP Senate candidate spoke at a church service Wednesday night, asking if all the women who have accused him of sexual misconduct are lying.

While discussing the allegations against him, Moore told the crowd that he believes he angered certain people while serving as district attorney several decades ago, which has created a conspiracy against him.

A protester interrupted Moore, asking, “The entire town? Are all the girls lying?” AL.com reported.

As he was leaving, the man said “Someone needed to stand up for the girls.”

Another person then stood up and defended the candidate, saying Moore is “a man’s man. Does that look like the face of a molester?”

The Moore backer was later identified as the comedian Tony Barbieri, who has appeared at previous political events as the character Jake Byrd for “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” He was later asked to leave the event.

Further protests ensued outside the event, where a man who attended the speech accused Moore of using “Bible verses to twist in any way he can. This is embarrassing to Alabama and embarrassing to me.” 

A Moore supporter then asked the man how much he was getting paid, AL.com reported.

Several women have accused Moore of sexual misconduct, with multiple women alleging he pursued a relationship with them when they were teenagers and he was in his 30s. 

Moore has denied the allegations, calling them a conspiracy by establishment Republicans and the media to steal the election from Alabama voters.

Earlier in the rally, Moore blamed members of the LGBT community, liberals and socialists for the state of the country.

Moore has in the past sparked controversy with his comments on LGBT rights.

Last month, he called for the impeachment of the federal judge who partially blocked Trump’s ban on transgender people serving in the military.

A recent poll showed Moore with a 5 point lead over Democratic opponent Doug Jones.

The election to fill the seat vacated by Attorney General Jeff Sessions will be held Dec. 12.
