Lawmakers take to Twitter to spread the Thanksgiving cheer
Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle took to Twitter on Thursday to share their Thanksgiving messages, wishing Americans a happy holiday and sharing some of the things they’re most grateful for.
Many Republicans and Democrats shared similar festive graphics wishing their followers a happy Thanksgiving.

Some lawmakers took the moment to celebrate their families.

Today is #Thanksgiving but it’s also another special day: my aunt’s #birthday! We don’t disclose her age except to say 21+. Te quiero demasiado, Titi Vicky! pic.twitter.com/cUSJy7RYBV

Others used Twitter to share longer messages about what they were thankful for, such as Rep. Ken Buck (R-Colo.), who linked to a column he wrote.
“These days, it’s easy to turn on the news and find discouragement. For me, spending almost every week in Washington, D.C., a city that sees many problems but arrives at very few solutions, can be challenging,” Buck wrote. “That’s why Thanksgiving offers such a respite.”
He went on to thank his family, community, God and America’s veterans.
Some lawmakers, such as Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.), offered a glimpse of what they were serving on Thursday.

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), who was seriously injured in an attack earlier this month, thanked Americans for their “concern” in a Thanksgiving video posted to Twitter alongside his wife.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), meanwhile, used a video to call on Americans to stand up to the Republican Party.
“Because of your effort, we’re going to take them on on their disastrous tax proposal,” Sanders said. “We’re going to beat them on that as well.”
He ended his message by wishing “everybody a wonderful Thanksgiving and a very happy holiday season.”
