WATCH: GOP Alabama rep: ‘No reason to doubt’ Moore’s accusers
An Alabama GOP lawmaker tells The Hill that he has no reason to doubt the women accusing his party’s Senate candidate of sexual misconduct with them when they were teenagers.
“I have no reason to doubt the stories that they’ve told, but Judge Moore has denied every one of them,” Rep. Bradley Byrne (R-Ala.) said in an interview with The Hill.
Asked if Moore should get out of the Senate race, Byrne said, “I’m making no statement about the Moore candidacy at this point in time.”
{mosads}Earlier in the day, Attorney General Jeff Sessions — who vacated the Senate seat that Moore hopes to fill — gave a similar response when asked about the veracity of the women who have accused Moore.
“I have no reason to doubt these young women,” Sessions said when asked at a House Judiciary Committee.
On Tuesday morning, Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) was the latest high-profile GOP official to call on Moore to exit the race.
