Roy Moore: ‘The transgenders don’t have rights’

Alabama GOP Senate nominee Roy Moore said Wednesday that transgender people don’t have rights.

“The transgenders don’t have rights,” Moore said Wednesday during a press conference, according to the Montgomery Advertiser.

“They’ve never been denominated as having rights by the U.S. Supreme Court.”

{mosads}Moore then went after his Democratic opponent, former federal prosecutor Doug Jones, saying he is taking up “transgender issues and transgender rights in the military.”

“He believes in transgender bathrooms and transgenders in the military. I disagree with him 100 percent,” Moore said during the appearance.

Moore is running to fill the Senate seat vacated by Jeff Sessions, who was tapped by President Trump to lead the Justice Department earlier this year. He’s running against Jones in the December special election.

The Alabama candidate has hardly been embraced by Washington Republicans, and is now dealing with a new controversy.

In a report published Thursday in The Washington Post, Moore is accused of having a sexual encounter with a 14-year-old girl in 1979. The report spurred an immediate backlash, with several GOP lawmakers calling for Moore to withdraw if the allegations are true.

Moore has previously sparked controversy with his comments on LGBT rights.

Last month, he called for the impeachment of the federal judge who partially blocked President Trump’s ban on transgender people serving in the military.

He said the decision of the federal judge is “absolutely ridiculous” and a “perfect example of the outlandish doctrine of judicial supremacy whereby judges exalt themselves over the Constitution they are sworn to uphold.”
