MSNBC host: Trump has gone from surprise victor to ‘skunk at the garden party’

MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace on Wednesday opened her show by declaring that President Trump has become a “skunk at the garden party” after Democrats secured resounding victories across the country the night before.

“In 365 seemingly endless days, Donald Trump went from surprise victor to the skunk at the garden party, the stench of his divisive politics burying GOP candidate for governor, Ed Gillespie, and delivering Democrats their most sweeping and deep victories in several election cycles,” Wallace said on “Deadline White House.”

Democratic candidates for governor were victorious in New Jersey and Virginia, and the party cut into Republican majorities in statehouses across the country.

Tuesday night’s results serve as a blueprint for Democrats in future races, and should “terrify” members of Congress who have been reluctant to denounce Trump, Wallace said.

“Now there is a proof point, there is a score on the board other than Donald Trump’s surprise victory a year ago about the flip-side, about the dangers of embracing Trumpism if your name isn’t Donald Trump,” Wallace said.
