Nearly half of employed women say they’ve experience sexual harassment in the workplace: poll

Nearly half of the employed women questioned in a new poll said they have experienced sexual harassment in the workplace.

Forty-eight percent of women said they have experienced some type of sexual harassment on the job, according to the Wall Street Journal-NBC News poll.

Pollsters also found that 41 percent of employed males said they have observed a woman on the receiving end of an unwanted sexual pass.

{mosads}The results of the survey come amidst a wave of sexual harassment allegations against prominent men in media and Hollywood, most notably film producer Harvey Weinstein, who has been accused of both sexual assault and harassment. Weinstein has denied any allegations of nonconsensual sex.

More than a third of women polled, 38 percent, said they think they have been paid less than a man doing the same job. Thirty-two percent of men said they have observed a woman receive lower pay for doing the same job.

The poll of 900 people was conducted from Oct. 23 to 26. It has a margin of 4.7 percentage points for the group of men and 4.5 percentage points among the women. The group of employed men and women has a margin of error of 6 percentage points.
