Trump says vote on ObamaCare repeal coming next year

President Trump said Monday Congress would vote again on an ObamaCare repeal bill next year. 

“We are getting close to health care. It will come up in the early to mid part of next year,” Trump said at a press conference in the White House Rose Garden. 

“We’re going to have a vote. I think we already have the votes. I feel confident we have the votes. You pretty much know what the plan is.” 

{mosads}Congress’s last-ditch effort to repeal and replace ObamaCare didn’t have the support it needed to pass before a Sept. 30 deadline. 

Republicans are now turning to tax reform before coming back to health care sometime next year.

Trump, who was previously critical of the Senate’s failure to pass a repeal bill, said he’s confident now that Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) can get it done.

Trump also appeared to support an effort in the Senate to fund ObamaCare insurer subsidies. 

His administration announced last week it would cancel the payments, arguing they were being made illegally. 

“I believe Republicans and Democrats are, as we speak, working together very hard right now, working together, to do an interim plan, a short-term plan, because ObamaCare is a disaster. The rates have gone up. The premiums have gone up. The deductibles have gone through the roof.” 

He’s referring to a deal being hashed out by the Senate Health Committee’s top Democrat and Republican that would fund the insurer payments through at least 2018. 

It’s unclear if both sides can come to an agreement, however, as Republicans are pushing to gives states the ability to opt out of some ObamaCare requirements. 

Democrats worry that will weaken some of the law’s patient protections.
