White Sox Invite Obama to Throw First Pitch

In part of their ongoing courting of the new adminstration, the Chicago White Sox have invited President Obama to throw out the first pitch at the team’s home opener this season.

In a letter to Obama the day after the inauguration, the White Sox asked the new president to do the ceremonial honor at the team’s April 6th home opener, the Chicago Tribune reported. The president has not made a decision, the paper said.

The team has been cheering on the new president as much as the new president has cheered on the team. The Sox announced earlier this month it was crafting a special “Obama hat.”

Obama, who is from the South Side of Chicago — traditionally Sox territory, compared to Cubs fans to the north — has occasionally let his fandom show since being elected. In one of his post-election press conferences, Obama caused a minor tiff when he divided reporters into a “Sox” and “Cubs” section.
