Steele Takes Small Lead After 3rd RNC Round

Former Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele has taken a small lead in the race to become the next chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC), as incumbent Chairman Robert “Mike” Duncan continues to lose votes.

After the third ballot, Steele led with 51 votes — a three vote gain — while Duncan trailed at 44 votes, a loss of four.

South Carolina Republican Party Chairman Katon Dawson continued to gain votes, totaling 34 votes at the end of the third ballot.

Michigan Republican Party Chairman Saul Anuzis idled at 24 votes, while former Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell continued to lose votes, ending with 15 delegates’ support.
