UN Security Council to hold emergency meeting on North Korea

The United Nations Security Council will hold an emergency meeting on Monday to discuss North Korea’s announcement that it had tested a hydrogen bomb.

U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley confirmed the meeting on Twitter Sunday.

News of the meeting comes after North Korea state media announced on Sunday the country had successfully tested a miniaturized hydrogen bomb capable of fitting on an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).

{mosads}News of the development comes after a series of ICBM tests by Pyongyang, which were met with a unanimous vote for the Security Council last month to issue harsher sanctions on the country.

Secretary-General António Guterres condemned the test, calling the act a “serious breach” of the country’s obligations.

President Trump also condemned the action, saying he was considering sanctioning North Korea’s trade partners.

When asked whether the U.S. would attack the country, he replied, “We’ll see.”
