Bachmann: Muslim immigrants trying to undermine Western civilization
Former Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) is accusing Muslim immigrants of trying to undermine Western civilization, strongly backing President Trump’s travel ban on refugees from six majority-Muslim countries.
“After all of this phony, fake, Russia-collusion nonstory, the number one thing that voters in America stand with Donald Trump on, it’s the idea that they want the pause button hit on immigration from Islamic countries because of the problems that are coming into this country,” Bachmann said at a forum for GOP candidates running for governor of Minnesota, the Pioneer Press reported Wednesday.
{mosads}Bachmann, who ran for president in 2012, centered most of her speech around calls for vigilance against Muslim immigrants. She said that too many people in Minnesota are “afraid of being called racists, bigots, Islamophobes.”
“I’m not afraid of it, because what we’ve got to do is talk about the truth of the problems that are going on in Minnesota,” Bachmann said.
Bachmann also called on Trump to “step up deportation in the country of people who are unwilling to bear allegiance to the United States” and stop immigrants from Muslim countries from entering the U.S.
Trump’s travel ban was a central part of his 2016 presidential campaign. His executive order on the ban was tied up in federal courts for months before the Supreme Court approved a limited version of the measure last month.
