Building where Sanders’s wife was college president is sold
The last building of the defunct college formerly run by Jane Sanders, the wife of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and subject of an ongoing FBI investigation, was reportedly sold on Wednesday.
The Burlington Free Press reported that the People’s United Bank paid $3.1 million for the vacant Burlington College building in an auction. A court ruling shows that the amount is less than what the college owes in debt.
The developer who purchased the building told the Free Press in May that he planned to turn it into a retail or commercial property.

The sale comes as the FBI investigates bank fraud allegations against Jane Sanders during her tenure as the college’s president. The bureau is reportedly investigating whether she falsified loan documents while working for the university, which went bankrupt in May of 2016.
The Washington Post reported earlier this week that the bureau’s probe has escalated in recent months.
Jane Sanders in June hired two attorneys in the wake of the investigation, which has provided the GOP with fodder to attack the Vermont senator and his wife.
