‘Zombie’ protesters cover Hamburg streets before G-20 summit

Protesters covered in gray clay — resembling a horde of zombies — silently shuffled through the streets of Hamburg, Germany, ahead of the Group of 20 (G-20) summit this week.

The hundreds of “zombies” were attempting Wednesday to make a statement on political apathy, according to CNN. The protest, which lasted about two hours, was meant to highlight the “destructive impact of capitalism” and call for more humanity and self-responsibility from the G-20 leaders, including President Trump and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

“Our campaign is a further symbol for the fact that many people do not want to put up with the destructive impact of capitalism any longer,” a statement from the group said. “What will save us in the end is not our account balance but someone who will offer their holding hand.”

The “zombies” held their performance for several days this week.

The protest was meant to show that a single person can make change happen — one protestor shed the gray-covered outer layers of his clothing to reveal brightly colored clothes underneath, leading others in the movement to follow.

“We cannot wait until change happens from the world’s most powerful, we have to show political and social responsibility — all of us — now!” a representative from the protest said.
