Jeb Bush ends bid for Miami Marlins: report

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R) is no longer pursuing a bid to buy the Miami Marlins baseball team, The Associated Press reported Tuesday.

Bush, who teamed up with former New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter on the bid, was competing to buy the Marlins with another group, whose members include former Major League Baseball pitcher Tom Glavine and Tagg Romney, the son of 2012 GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney.

Bush and Jeter initially launched separate efforts to buy the Marlins but teamed up last month to increase their odds of winning the bid.

{mosads}It was not immediately clear why Bush dropped his efforts to buy the MLB team.

Bush said earlier this month he was “confident” the sale would go through and said at the time that the bidding team was “hoping to learn sooner rather than later” if they would be able to purchase the Marlins.

The team is currently owned by New York art dealer Jeffrey Loria, but he announced his intention to sell the team last year.

Bush competed for the Republican presidential nomination last year, but withdrew from the race after losing the South Carolina GOP primary. Unlike many other early Republican presidential contenders, Bush never endorsed President Trump in the general election.
