Missing gay partner’s name ‘an oversight’ says White House
The White House is describing its omission of a same-sex spouse’s name from a photo caption as “an oversight.”
The White House in a Facebook post left out the name of Gauthier Destenay, the husband of Luxembourg Prime Minister Xavier Bettel, from the caption of a photo depicting NATO leaders’ spouses.
{mosads}White House spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham told The Washington Blade on Saturday that the error “was an oversight.”
“Thousands of photos were taken over the course of a very big, very busy international trip,” she said.
The original caption was first noticed by The Daily Beast.
The White House, in an updated caption, added “Luxembourg’s Gauthier Destenay.” Both captions still list the year as 2917.
The photo of the spouses of North Atlantic Treaty Organization leaders was taken at the Royal Palace in Brussels.
