New regs for Monday: Whistleblowers, endangered, beef

Monday’s edition of the Federal Register contains new rules for whistleblowers, endangered snails, and beef.

Here’s what is happening:

Regs: The Department of Energy (DOE) is searching for existing regulations to eliminate.

The Energy Department issued a request for information Friday as it seeks to identify unnecessary and burdensome rules to modify or repeal.

The public has 45 days to comment.

Whistleblowers: The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is moving forward with new whistleblower rules.

The rules affect how the CFTC reviews whistleblower claims and administers the awards program. The agency is also making changes to anti-retaliation measures.

The changes go into effect in 60 days.

Endangered: Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) is reconsidering protections for certain freshwater mussels.

The FWS proposed last August listing the Texas hornshell as endangered, but is now reopening the comment period.

The public has an additional 30 days to comment.

Beef: The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is moving forward with new rules for beef.

The USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service is adding tariff schedule codes and updating assessment levels for imported veal.

The changes go into effect in 30 days.
