The Islamic State in Iraq and Syria on Tuesday claimed responsibility for the attack in Manchester, England, that killed at least 22 Monday evening.

The terrorist group claimed responsibility in a statement that said one of its members placed an explosive device at the arena, according to a translation by SITE Intelligence Group.

At least 22 people died in the attack Monday evening at Manchester Arena, which took place at the end of a concert performance by Ariana Grande. Police said they are treating it as a “terrorist incident.”

President Trump extended his condolences to the victims following the attack in remarks from his trip abroad.

“I extend my deepest condolences to those so terribly injured in this terrorist attack and to the many killed and the families, so many families, of the victims. We stand in absolute solidarity with the people of the United Kingdom,” the president said while in Israel.

“So many young beautiful innocent people living and enjoying their lives murdered by evil losers in life. I won’t call them monsters because they would like that term. They would think that’s a great name. I will call them from now on losers because that’s what they are.”

Trump spoke with Prime Minister Theresa May on Tuesday morning to discuss the “wanton and depraved” attack, the White House said.

“The President reassured the Prime Minister that Americans stand with the people of the United Kingdom and that our resolve will never waiver in the face of terrorism. He offered American aid in the United Kingdom’s investigation and vowed to continue the mutual fight against terrorism.”
