Third Confederate monument taken down by New Orleans
The City of New Orleans on Wednesday took down a Confederate monument of Gen. P.G.T. Beauregard, the third statue the city has taken down.
New Orleans plans to remove a fourth monument soon, The Associated Press reported.
“While we must honor our history, we will not allow the Confederacy to be put on a pedestal in the heart of New Orleans.”

City officials say the monuments don’t “appropriately reflect the values of diversity and inclusion that make New Orleans strong today.”
Fights in state and federal court have delayed the monuments’ removal for months.
