De Blasio: Trump’s tax reform would be ‘bad for the American people’

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) on Wednesday slammed President Trump’s proposed tax reform, arguing it would be “bad for the American people.”

“His tax reform is going to provide big tax cuts to the wealthy and corporations, but we don’t even know about his own business interests,” de Blasio told CNN’s “New Day.” “We don’t know if some of that would benefit him and his family.”

The White House recently suggested it may move in a new direction on tax reform and that it is looking into plans that would provide tax relief to the middle class.

{mosads}De Blasio, noting that American voters felt “left behind” during the 2016 presidential campaign, said tax breaks for the wealthy would not help Americans.

“I think that would be bad for the economy and bad for the American people,” he said.

The mayor also said Americans should be able to see Trump’s tax returns.

“We need to know: Does Russia have something over him?” he asked. “Is there information in those taxes he doesn’t want out because it would lead to controversy and it would compromise him in some way?”
