House Republican calls on Schwarzenegger to resign

A California Republican lawmaker called on Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) to resign, citing a failure to seek regulatory waiver that could ease the area’s water shortage.

Schwarzenegger should resign because he’s “utterly failed” to obtain a waiver of the Endangered Species Act that would allow water pumps to function at a greater capacity, Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) said.

“He’s had five, six years in office to figure this water situation out, and he hasn’t done it,” Nunes told the Sacramento Bee. “Then he shows up to the San Joaquin Valley today and says nothing. You’ve got to turn the pumps on in the Delta, and we have to go back to historic levels.”

The call for Schwarzenegger marks another break from fellow Republicans in the state in recent months. Many California GOP-ers have balked at the governor’s decision to raise taxes, as well as his willingness to support President Obama’s push for a large stimulus package.

To make matters worse, some California Democrats have launched a petition seeking to recall Schwarzenegger, ironically seeking to oust the governor using the same tool that swept him into office
in 2003.

“This is not a drought like it’s being portrayed in the news,” Nunes added. “This is a man-made drought.”
