Poll: Sanders most popular senator among home-state voters

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) has the highest approval rating of any U.S. senator among their home-state voters in a survey released Tuesday.

The Morning Consult poll showed a 75 percent approval rating for the Vermont senator among his constituents. Sanders, who lost the Democratic presidential nomination to Hillary Clinton last year, has remained popular nationwide.

A vocal critic of President Trump, he has not ruled out another White House bid in 2020.

{mosads}Fellow Vermont Sen. Patrick Leahy (D) came in second on Morning Consult’s rankings at 70 percent, and Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) was third at 69 percent.

Pollsters found Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is the least popular senator at home, with a 44 percent approval rating and 47 percent disapproval, making him the only member of the Senate who is underwater in his home state.

GOP Sens. John McCain (Ariz.) and Lindsey Graham (S.C.) were second and third on the least-popular list with 43 percent and 40 percent approval, respectively.

Morning Consult surveyed more than 85,000 registered voters across the nation between January and March for its latest poll.
