New regs for Monday: School meals, gas pipelines, marijuana
Monday’s edition of the Federal Register contains new eligibility requirements for school meal programs, an advisory for gas pipelines and a ban on synthetic marijuana.
Here’s what is happening:
Pot: The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is cracking down on synthetic marijuana.
The DEA said Friday it will temporarily ban six synthetic cannabinoids because they pose an “imminent hazard to the public safety.”

The ban goes into effect immediately.
Food: The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is updating the eligibility requirements for school meal programs.
The USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service announced Friday that it is raising the income threshold for the families of students who receive free and discounted school meals.
“The guidelines are intended to direct benefits to those children most in need and are revised annually to account for changes in the Consumer Price Index,” the agency said.
The changes go into effect July 1.
Gas: The Department of Transportation (DOT) is moving forward with new guidelines for the operators of gas pipelines.
The DOT’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration issued an advisory bulletin Friday that builds on the agency’s integrity management rule for gas transmission pipelines.
The advisory goes into effect immediately.
