New regs for Tuesday: Trump delays safety rules for trains, trucks, buses
President Trump’s regulatory moratorium will delay new efficiency standards, as well as safety requirements for trucks, buses and commuter trains.
Here’s what is happening:
Trucks: The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is delaying new training requirements for truck and bus drivers.
The Obama administration issued the training requirements in December for entry-level drivers seeking their first commercial driver’s license. But the Trump administration delayed the rule in February. This is the second delay.
The training requirements will now go into effect on May 22.
Trains: The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) is delaying train safety requirements.
The Obama administration issued new safety requirements for commuter trains last August, but the agency delayed the rule in February to comply with Trump’s regulatory moratorium. This is the second delay.
The safety requirements now go into effect in 60 days.
Efficiency: The Department of Energy (DOE) is delaying new efficiency standards.
The Energy Department’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy it is pushing back Obama-era energy conservation standards for ceiling fans to comply with Trump’s regulatory moratorium.
The ceiling fan rules will now go into effect on Sept. 30.
