Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner (R-Wis.) on Friday said that President Trump or Vice President Pence will lead the country for the next four years.

“The way we change things is through elections and elections have consequences,” Sensenbrenner said during a a town hall in Butler, Wisconsin, as reported by the Independent Journal Review.

“Donald Trump was elected President of the United States last fall. He or Mike Pence will be the president for the next four years, period,” he added.

The lawmaker’s press office told The Hill that Sensenbrenner misspoke and that he was replying to a question about potential impeachment hearings.

The short video of Sensenbrenner’s response was published by American Bridge 21st Century, a super PAC that distributes Democratic opposition research.

Sensenbrenner is among the Republicans who have continued to hold town hall events despite the wave of protests over ObamaCare repeal.

Sensenbrenner attended more town halls than any other congressman in February. The only lawmaker to appear in more events last month was the Democratic Senator Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), according to data from Legistorm.
