Dozens of headstones vandalized at Jewish cemetery in Philadelphia

Dozens of headstones were found damaged and overturned at a Jewish cemetery in Philadelphia on Sunday, according to local reports.

Philadelphia police confirmed Sunday afternoon that the damage at the cemetery was an act of vandalism, according to a local news station, 6abc.

{mosads}A visitor from New Jersey noticed the vandalized headstones while he was visiting his father’s grave at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

“It’s just very disheartening that such a thing would take place,” said Aaron Mallin, according to 6abc. “I’m hoping it was maybe just some drunk kids. But the fact that there’s so many it leads one to think it could have been targeted.”

The reports come less than a week after vandals destroyed 100 headstones at a Jewish cemetery in St. Louis, Mo., on the same weekend that several Jewish community centers across the country received bomb threats.
