Rep. Steve Womack (R-Ark.) was confronted by a town hall audience Tuesday who did not buy his explanation for why he doesn’t want to investigate President Trump.
Pressed with calls for a probe into Trump, Womack responded in a frustrated tone, “You guys just want to investigate everybody.”
{mosads}The room erupted into jeers and shouts of “what about Benghazi?” in reference to the series of exhaustive GOP investigations of the 2012 attacks in Libya that left four Americans dead. Critics have charged that the Republican focus on the Benghazi attack was just an excuse to rake 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton over the coals.
“You guys wasted a lot of money on Benghazi, waste a little on Trump!” one man can be heard on tape exclaiming at Womack.
Trump on Tuesday dismissed the angry crowds of protesters that showed up at numerous GOP town hall events in recent days, calling them “planned” by the Democrats.
“The so-called angry crowds in home districts of some Republicans are actually, in numerous cases, planned out by liberal activists. Sad!” Trump tweeted.
