New regs for Wednesday: Nutrition, beds, air pollution
President Trump’s regulatory moratorium ensnares nutrition labels for meat products in Wednesday’s edition of the Federal Register.
Here’s what is happening:
Nutrition: The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is delaying nutritional rules to comply with President Trump’s regulatory moratorium.
The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service proposed updating the nutrition labels for meat products on Jan. 19, the last full day of the Obama administration. But the agency said Tuesday it will extend the comment period.
The public has until April 19 to comment.
Beds: The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is strengthening the safety standards for toddler beds.
The CPSC issued the toddler bed safety standards in 2011, but published a direct final rule on Tuesday to update those regulations. The protections stem from the Danny Keysar Child Product Safety Notification Act.
The protections go into effect on June 6.
Air pollution: The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is delaying new air pollution rules.
The EPA proposed air pollution emissions standards for publicly owned treatment works in December, but is now extending the comment period to give the public more time to consider the changes. The delay does not seem to be related to President Trump’s regulatory moratorium.
The public now has until March 29 to comment.
