Trump at Lincoln Memorial: My voters ‘not forgotten anymore’

President-elect Donald Trump addressed a crowd of supporters on the National Mall in Washington on Thursday night, recalling his long-shot bid for the White House and hailing his inauguration Friday as a historic moment.

“This started out tonight being a small little concert and then we had the idea, ‘maybe we’ll do it in front of the Lincoln Memorial,” Trump told the crowd. “I don’t know if it’s ever been done before, but if it has, very seldom.”

President Obama famously had his inauguration celebration in front of the Lincoln Memorial.

Taking the stage immediately after an inauguration concert at the memorial, Trump boasted about his electoral victory, and vowed that the voters that sent him to Washington would not be forgotten.

“That last month of the campaign, we knew that something special was happening,” Trump said. “And I can only tell you this: the polls starting going up up up, but they didn’t want to give us credit. Because they forgot about a lot of us. On the campaign I called it the forgotten man and the forgotten woman.”

“Well, you’re not forgotten anymore,” he said.

Trump arrived in Washington for his earlier on Thursday, and spent the day attending a congressional luncheon and a wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery.
