Trump supporter Scottie Nell Hughes to part ways with CNN

Scottie Nell Hughes, a staunch Donald Trump supporter signed by CNN as a contributor during the rise of the billionaire’s presidential campaign, will be ending her contract with the network after the president-elect takes office.

Hughes told The Hill in an exclusive statement that signing another contract with CNN after the inauguration was never a consideration on her end.

“My contract with CNN was only through January,” said Hughes in an email response. “No contract is being cut or is ending early, and I was under no illusion it was going to continue past that.”

Hughes was referring to an earlier report by New York Magazine and Daily Beast contributing writer Yashar Ali that her contract had been “cut.”

Ali’s tweet was later picked up and referenced in a story on Hughes and CNN by Mediaite.
{mosads}Hughes said she has “several opportunities being presented in media and otherwise” in the coming year.

After working in New York since signing with CNN in May, Hughes will now return home to be with her husband and two children full-time.

As often the lone Trump supporter outnumbered by Democratic and even Republican anti-Trump commentators such as GOP strategist Ana Navarro, Hughes notes it was “no surprise” she was often at odds with CNN colleagues.

“As a strong, vocal supporter of Mr. Trump from the beginning of his campaign as well as a representative of the grassroots conservative movement, it should come as no surprise I had my share of disagreements both on and off the air with my colleagues,” said Hughes.

“My family and I look forward to many blessing starting off with watching the swearing in of Donald J. Trump as our 45th President of the United States on January 20th.”
